Jr. Hockey Tryouts 2017

                                                                                                                                         2017 – 2018 Junior Hockey Letter

Dear Parents and Players,

On behalf of the Junior Hockey Committee, I hope you have had a happy and healthy summer, and school is off to a good start! The staff at Beaver Dam has been hard at work preparing our Club for the upcoming season, and it is coming together nicely as always. Please read the reminders below as we are making every effort to get our 2017/2018 season off to a smooth, successful start. Thank you.

* All players MUST register with USA Hockey, and it has to be done BEFORE tryouts. Please submit a copy of the confirmation page to Greg Martinelli at asap. Players will not be allowed to tryout without this being done.

* Tryouts for A teams will be the held on Saturday October 14 and Sunday October 15. The process will be the same as last year, with evaluators grading from the bench. Head coaches will have no input. Evaluators grades alone will determine whether your child will be a A player or B player for the year. To play on a A team, every player must make at least one tryout session, although making both is highly encouraged. Tryouts are not mandatory for those who want to be B players.

* Marlborough will be the weekend of March 2,3,and 4. We are working hard to find an appropriate tournament for our girls teams.

Our continued mission at Beaver Dam is the development of our young players, both on and off the ice. The program will focus on skill development, teamwork, and competition. Most importantly, the Committee wants to ensure that each player has a positive and enjoyable hockey experience at Beaver Dam. We all feel that it is a privilege to wear the Beaver Dam jersey, and expect all kids to represent it well, both on and off the ice. We expect full commitment from all parents and players. If any issues arise at all over the course of the reason, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Committee, or me personally. Issues about scheduling or related matters can be discussed with Greg.

During the summer of 2016, the Club league instituted some changes with regard to travel players, which all clubs adopted. That policy remains for this year. Players must meet all of the following criteria. If your player cannot fulfill all , then they are not eligible to play. They must attend one of the tryout days. They must make 50% of practices, and 50% of games (and separately 50% of league games to be eligible for playoffs). They must make playoffs (Feb 24,25). All of the above are equally important. We ask all parents and players to seriously evaluate whether or not they can meet all of the above. Last year, we had several conflicts that put teams and coaches in awkward positions. I have copies of all schedules for the year, please reach out to me and I will get you copies to compare to your travel team. The webpage is going through a update, and will not be working for a few more weeks.

Lastly, I would like to reemphasize that Beaver Dam is all about having fun, in a safe, competitive environment. Generations of players and families have grown up at our Club, and forged lifelong friendships here. It is a special place. We are all looking forward to a great 2017/2018 season! As a reminder, the Pro-Shop is open during the week from 9-5 until the club opens for all your equipment needs and skate fittings.

Any questions at all, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Brad Cuddeback

Historically, the girls program has been all inclusive; anyone born on the age appropriate birth years, and commits to all practices and games, will be on the team. Preseason skates are an opportunity for girls to get reacclimatized to the ice and allow coaches to get a handle on the numbers eligible for each squad.
